When we speak of Livorno, we start from the gorgeous Terrazza Mascagni, a splendid belvedere offering broad views of the sea.
At the edge of the piazza is the Aquarium, where visitors can admire a great many marine species from all over the world, like sharks, sea turtles, tropical fish, and so much more.

BETWEEN HISTORY AND THE SEA
LIVORNO
VENEZIA NUOVA QUARTER |
Another highly characteristic district of Livorno is the Venezia Nuova quarter, patterned after Venice itself, with numerous canals bringing the sea into the city. The picturesque workshops, bars, and restaurants lining the canals alternate with historic palazzi and charming views that make a stroll in this neighbourhood a real delight.
FORTEZZA NUOVA
Fortezza Nuova was built in the late sixteenth century to create a protected space for the inhabitants of Livorno:an“island” shaped like a pentagon, the fortressis protected by a defensive wall and surrounded by a system of moats. Today, it has been transformed into a park of abundant greenery, accessed by an ancient bridge, where events are organized in the spring/summer.
MERCATO DELLE VETTOVAGLIE
Livorno’s Central Market is better known as Mercato delleVettovaglie, or “the provisions market.”Built in the late nineteenth century, it is one of Europe’s largest, and has maintained its original beauty to this day.
Inside are a great many workshops of various kinds, and wine cellars facing the FossoReale moat.
